GENERAL INFORMATION:

Proviraplex (Mesterolone) is a synthetic, orally effective androgen which does not have any anabolic characteristics. Proviraplex is used in school medicine to case or cure disturbances caused by a deficiency of male sex hormones. Many athletes, for this reason, often use Proviraplex at the end of a steroid treatment in order to increase the reduced testosterone production. This, however, is not a good idea since Proviraplex has no effect on the body's own testosterone production but as mentioned in the beginning-only reduces or completely eliminates the dysfunctions caused by the testosterone deficiency. These are, in particular, impotence which is mostly caused by an androgen deficiency that can occur after the discontinuance of steroids, and infertility which manifests itself in a reduced sperm count and a reduced sperm quality.
Although this steroid is strongly androgenic, the anabolic effect of it is considered too weak for muscle building purposes. This is due to the fact that Proviraplex is rapidly reduced to inactive metabolites in muscle tissue, a trait also characteristic of dihydrotestosterone, The belief that the weak anabolic nature of this compound indicated a tendency to block the androgen receptor in muscle tissue, thereby reducing the gains of other more potent muscle building steroids, should likewise not be taken seriously. In fact due to its extremely high affinity for plasma binding proteins such as SHBG, Proviraplex may actually work to potentate the activity of other steroids by displacing a higher percentage into a free, unbound state.
Proviraplex has different uses in the world of bodybuilding. One of them being the result of its structure. It is 5-alpha reduced and not capable of forming estrogen, yet it nonetheless has a much higher affinity for the aromatase enzyme (which converts testosterone to estrogen) than testosterone does. That means in administering it with testosterone or another aromatizable compound, it prevents estrogen build-up because it binds to the aromatase enzyme very strongly, thereby preventing these steroids from interacting with it and forming estrogen. So Mesterolone use has the extreme benefit of reducing estrogenic side-effects and water retention noted with other steroids, and as such still help to provide mostly lean gains. Its also been suggested that it may actually downgrade the actual estrogen receptor making it doubly effective at reducing circulating estrogen levels.
One can say that Tamoxiplex (Tamoxifen Citrate) cures the problem of aromatization at its root while Tamoxiplex simply cures the symptoms. For this reason male athletes should prefer Proviraplex to Tamoxiplex. With Proviraplex the athlete obtains more muscle hard-ness since the androgen level is increased and the estrogen concentration remains low. This, in particular, is noted positively during the preparation for a competition when used in combination with a diet. Female athletes who naturally have a higher estrogen level often supplement their steroid intake with Proviraplex resulting in increased muscle hardness. In the past it was common for body-builders to take a daily dose of one 25 mg tablet over several weeks, sometimes even months, in order to appear hard all year round. This was especially important for athletes' appearances at guest performances, seminars and photo sessions. Today Clenbutaplex (Clenbuterol) is usually taken over the entire year since possible virilization symp-toms cannot occur which is not yet the case with Proviraplex.

HOW DOES IT WORK:

Mesterolone is an orally active, 1-methylated DHT. Like Masteron, but then actually delivered in an oral fashion. DHT is the conversion product of testosterone at the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme, the result being a hormone that is 3 to 4 times as androgenic and is structurally incapable of forming estrogen. One would imagine then that mesterolone would be a perfect drug to enhance strength and add small but completely lean gains to the frame. Unfortunately there is a control mechanism for DHT in the human body. When levels get too high, the 3alpha hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase enzyme converts it to a mostly inactive compound known as 3-alpha (5-alpha-androstan-3alpha,17beta-diol), a prohormone if you will. It can equally convert back to DHT by way of the same enzyme when low levels of DHT are detected. But it means that unless one uses ridiculously high amounts, most of what is administered is quite useless at the height of the androgen receptor in muscle tissue and thus mesterolone is not particularly suited, if at all, to promote muscle hypertrophy.
So what we have here is a steroid which can possibly make other steroids more effective by inhibiting SHBG from attaching to them, and also has the additional benefit of reducing the amount of overall estrogen in the body. It's not the kind of steroid that we can base a cycle around, but I think that those properties certainly make it beneficial for adding it into virtually any cycle. This of course also provides a hard, quality look to muscle that's gained on a cycle, and an overall improvement in the look of the physique. Also, up to 100-150mgs/day it has no depressing effect on low to normal serum FSH and LH levels . In fact, if your natural hormonal levels are depressed, it may even be able to raise LH , which can then raise your natural testosterone levels.
A very interesting fact about Proviraplex is that it binds very well to SHBG (Sex Hormone Binding Globulin) which is the transport hormone responsible for reducing the amount of circulating free testosterone in your body. It actually binds to SHBG better than almost any other anabolic steroid that I'm aware of. Proviraplex also binds to the Anabolic Receptor (AR) better than any commercially available oral anabolic . While the previous two effects are certainly desirable effects, this oral version of DHT also has a very high affinity for binding to receptors in the scalp and prostate, causing some possible nasty side effects, like male pattern baldness and prostate enlargement.

As conclusion we can say that Proviraplex reduces either levels of estrogen or the effect of estrogen. Thus, it is useful for avoiding gynecomastia, although it probably should not be relied upon as the sole drug for that. It is not hepatotoxic.

SIDE EFFECTS:

The side effects of Proviraplex in men are low at a dosage of 24 tablets/day so that Proviraplex, taken for example in combination with a steroid cycle, can be used comparatively without risk over several weeks. Since Proviraplex is well tolerated by the liver, liver dysfunctions do not occur in the given dosages. For athletes who are used to acting under the motto "more is better" the intake of Proviraplex could have a paradoxical effect. The most common side effect of Proviraplex is a distinct sexual overstimulation and in some cases continuous penis erection. Since this condition can be painful and lead to possible damages, a lower dosage or discontinuing the compound are the only sensible solutions. Female athletes should use Proviraplex with caution since possible androgenic side effects cannot be excluded. Women who want to give Proviraplex a try should not take more than one 25 mg tablet per day. Higher dosages and periods of intake of more than four weeks considerably increase the risk of virilization symptoms. Female athletes who have no difficulties with Proviraplex obtain good results with 25 mg Proviraplex/ day and 20 mg Tamoxiplex/day and, in combination with a diet, report an accelerated fat breakdown and continuously harder muscles.

Proviraplex is also not a c17 alpha alkylated compound, an alteration commonly used with oral anabolic/androgenic steroids. Not using this structure in the case of Proviraplex removes the notable risk of liver toxicity we normally associate with oral dosing. We therefore consider this a "safe" oral, the user having no need to worry about serious complications with use. This steroid in fact utilizes the same 1-methylation we see present on Primoplex (methenolone), another well tolerated orally active compound. Alkylation at the one position also slows metabolism of the steroid during the first pass, although much less profoundly than 17 alpha alkylation. Likewise Proviraplex and Primoplex are resistant enough to breakdown to allow therapeutically beneficial blood levels to be achieved, although the overall bioavailability of these compounds is still much lower than methylated oral steroids.

Proviraplex is usually well tolerated and side effects (men) are rare with dosages under 100 mg per day. Above this, one may develop an excessively high androgen level and encounter some problems. Typical androgenic side effects include oily skin, acne, body/facial hair growth and exacerbation of a male pattern baldness condition, and may occur even with the use of a moderate dosage. With the strong effect DHT has on the reproductive system, androgenic actions may also include an extreme heightening of male libido. And as discussed earlier, Women should be careful around Proviraplex. It is an androgen, and as such has the potential to produce virilization symptoms quite readily. This includes, of course, a deepening of the voice, menstrual irregularities, changes in skin texture and clitoral enlargement.
